Job Description:
The Assistant Construction Instructor (Plumber) is responsible for supporting the lead instructor in delivering hands-on plumbing training to prepare participants for entry-level roles in the construction industry. The role involves administering the MC3 curriculum and contributing to the construction of a tiny house (or similar project), including electrical, framing, drywall, and green construction concepts like solar, weatherization, and recycling. The ideal candidate serves as a role model and mentor, helping participants build technical skills and personal confidence.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach participants basic plumbing skills as outlined in the MC3 curriculum

  • Track attendance, progress, and skill development of trainees

  • Coordinate individual plans for participants with program staff

  • Instruct on the proper use and handling of hand and power tools, including safety exams

  • Maintain and order tools, materials, and supplies

  • Assist with maintenance of the training site and building

  • Participate in curriculum planning and weekly team meetings

  • Attend all required meetings

  • Supervise job sites where training-related work is performed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the plumbing trade

  • Vocational teaching credential preferred (or willingness to obtain certification)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate tools and equipment used in plumbing and construction

  • Knowledge of safety hazards and safe handling of materials and tools

  • Professionalism and courteous conduct in community and team interactions

  • Technologically capable and able to learn new tools and platforms

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing

  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds
