Congratulations to Christopher Long!
Chris was honored to be recognized by Success Centers, though he humbly admits he was surprised. “It felt good to be spotlighted,” he said. “But I couldn’t help thinking that this could’ve gone to any one of my peers.”
Chris’s journey with Success Centers began in 2020, when a former Web Development Manager introduced him to the Code on Point program. At the time, he was considering a physically demanding career in demolition. After a thoughtful reflection, a background in programming, and a desire for something more sustainable, he took a leap.
The program was intense, but Chris stayed committed, especially after promising Jason, the program’s lead, that he’d see it through. Despite being a student, he was asked to lead the course as Project Manager, learning to guide others while strengthening his own skills. “For the first time, my work was directly impacting others. That felt amazing.”
Chris has faced imposter syndrome and self-doubt, but he’s pushed through, building confidence and technical skills. He’s passionate about tech as a tool for equity and is especially proud of the new Success Centers website that he created, which will launch this July.
Beyond web development, Chris is working on a spectrogram generator, a project that turns visual art into sound, and is taking his first steps into game development. He’s also learning to draw professionally, studying anatomy and perspective. A self-taught guitarist, Chris enjoys karaoke, pool, video games, reading, and writing, and is currently working on a fantasy sci-fi novel he describes as “Game of Thrones meets Star Wars.” He can read and write French, is learning Japanese, and knows ten different programming languages!
Chris lives by a simple but powerful belief: “Always give others the benefit of the doubt. Everyone has value.”
Please join us in celebrating Chris Long; a creative force, a dedicated learner, and a true inspiration!
