Job Description:
The Assistant Construction Instructor is responsible for supporting the lead instructor in delivering hands-on training in basic carpentry skills, preparing participants for entry-level construction jobs. Duties include assisting with instruction, administering the MC3 curriculum, and helping construct a tiny house (or similar project) from start to finish. This includes work in electrical, framing, drywall, and green building techniques like solar, weatherization, and recycling. The ideal candidate should model strong ethics and values while working with individuals facing significant social and employment barriers.
Responsibilities:
Instruct participants in basic construction topics as identified by the MC3 curriculum
Assist in teaching skills including demolition, framing, roofing, drywall, finish carpentry, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, painting, and masonry
Track attendance, progress, and skills development of trainees
Coordinate individual plans with YouthBuild staff
Teach proper tool and equipment handling; administer safety exams
Maintain inventory of tools and materials; order supplies as needed
Assist with maintenance of the training site/building
Participate in curriculum planning and progress reviews in team meetings
Attend all required staff meetings
Supervise job sites used for training
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the construction trade
Vocational teaching credential preferred (or willingness to obtain certification)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Detail-oriented and organized
Capable of operating tools and equipment used in construction
Knowledge of safety procedures and proper use of materials
Ability to work with and teach diverse populations
Comfortable using technology when appropriate
Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills
Professional, respectful, and culturally competent
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing
Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds
