Characters: Little Star the Star, Male 100 years old (like 15 in human years) Jewel the Sun, his mom, 1000 years old Setting: In the big black dark sky. See the moon and other stars. Hears airplanes and helicopters. Taste air and rain. Time: 10 pm at night in summer At Rise: Dark sky and stars. Little Star is chilling by himself in the sky.
Little Star: (thinking) Dang, school about to start back up. Man, I can’t wait because I’m trying to learn how to get bigger and turn into a moon and not fall out of the sky. But I’m thinking about going to look for my girl cause I need to find her cause I’m missing her. I gotta bust a move, I know she probably waiting for me or missing me. I’m thinking about goin to go see my mom. But I know my girl missing me, she just gonna leave without just letting me know. She scandalous. I knew she was leavin but why she didn’t let me know she was goin. Everywhere I go I let her know. I can’t wait until I see her, I’m go nna get on her line. I was real sad and mad at her but I wanna be with her and gotta go find her. I wanna have a baby with Lil Mama.
(Jewel the sun appears up)
Jewel: Why you wanna have kids by that girl? You ain’t ready for no kids. How you goin take care of a baby? You can’t take care of yourself? Dang, Little Star, you looking for that girl? Why you not worried about goin to school? You should be thinking bout getting your scholarship. Why you round here thinkin bout these little fast little girls? Boy, what I always told you? Them girls still goin be here. Them girls ain’t goin no where.
Little Star: Mama you know I really like her. I’ma go look for her cause I just can’t be without her. I’ma be so lonely and I can’t be that. Everybody in the sky will see I’m so lonely. She really got my heart.
Jewel: Forget her then. She just hot anyway. When you graduate from school there gonna be plenty more out there and you can have how ever many pretty hot stars you want. Boy I always taught you that girls come and go. Little Star: Man, I’m better than that I’m just gonna have one. One girl at a time. I’m not gonna break no girl’s heart. Little Mama will find out that I’m talking to more than one and she gonna be mad at me. Little Mama, she my everything. When I shine, me and my Little Mama goin to shine together. I don’t care what no one say. That’s goin to be my Lil Mama.
Jewel: You need to stop think about that girl. I’m getting tired of you keepin talkin bout that girl.
Little Star: I’m tryin to do better with my girl. But mom, Lil Mama had to leave.
Jewel: Why?
Little Star: ‘Member I was telling you the stars was fallin down on the other side of the planet? Her mom said that because the stars was fallin and dyin, they needed to move. I dream to have a baby with this girl but my dream can’t come true cause she movin to the other side of the planet. I gotta go find my Lil Mama.
Jewel: Don’t make me slap the fire off you! Boy, I told you, you ain’t ready to be with no girl, you ain’t ready for babies, you need to be worried about school! You should be thinking about something else. You not havin no kids boy!
Little Star: Yeah I am. I’ma do what I want. I’m a grown star!
Jewel: I don’t care how grown you are, you ain’t THAT grown! You livin on my side of the planet boy!
Little Star: Mama, I don’t care what you say. You don’t tell your other kids what to do! How you goin tell me what to do? Man, whatever, I ’ma go find Lil Mama and make her happy.
Jewel: (bluffin) And when you go find her you better stay with her cause you ain’t bringing her back to my side of the planet.
Little Star: (bluffin) Tchhh….I can do better without y’all anyway!
Jewel: If you take your flames over there, if I ever see you again I’ma push you down from the sky.
Little Star: Aw for real? Like that mom? I’m gonna go tell my dad on you.
Jewel: So? Tell his yellow full moon. He don’t do nothing anyway, he ain’t nobody anyway. If you tell your dad what you think he gonna do?
Little Star: More than what you would do! He care about my girl! He think she real hot!
Jewel: Man, I always wish that you would go to school. I didn’t wish that you would sit here arguing with me all day! Son, I just want you to do right.
Little Star: I know Ma, I’m trying to do right. Mom you make me happy all the time. You know I’ma good star. I ain’t tryin to sit up here and lie to you mom. It’s a lot of fire up in here. It get so hot, I feel like I’m on edge. Jewel: Son, I know how you feel cause I be feeling like that too. Always told you to look forward and don’t’ look back.
Little Star: I know Ma. That’s what I’m tryin to do. I’m tryin to move around. I’m tryin to be a moon like my dad. Lil Mama always used to tell me she wanna be a sun like my mom. I told her she was gonna get there one day.
Jewel: You remember what I told you? Becoming a sun take a lot of work and a lot of fire. You can’t just become me by tryin to be like me. Like I told you it took a long time for your dad to become a moon. It took 1,000’s of years for him to become where he at. How you think he got me? Boy, you got 100’s and 100’s of years to go.
Little Star: Ma, I know. That’s why I’m tryin to go to school so I can get there like my pops.
Jewel: Well then go to school, you can always get another girl.
Little Star: Ain’t no other girl goin to have my love like she does. She the only one that got me doin good up here. Cause she got me goin down that right line. I like that she’s smart. Cause Lil Mama’s smart. She got an education. Ain’t no other stars smart like her. I’m not gonna give up on her. She be makin me want to cry up here or fall from the sky.
Jewel: Boy, ain’t no girl should make you want to cry. Why you wanna have kids? You too young!
Little Star: I know I’m young but it’s time for me to start making my own decisions. I could fall from the sky any day and I want someone to like remember me, like a Little Star son. I could be happy that I had a little one that I could look at in the sky and he could do the things that I used to do. He could party like his daddy!
Jewel: I know son, that you want a baby and all but I ain’t ready for no grandkids. Adding another one, that’s too much!
Little Star: Please, please ma, I don’t want you to give up on me. You didn’t give up on your other son when he had his baby. Remember I told you I wanted to be like my brother and have a baby?
Jewel: You can’t be like him! I told you, you gotta be better than him! You can do better! I wish he woulda went to school like I’m tellin you to.
Little Star: I know he coulda went to school, but we getting growner, we ain’t getting younger. I know you want me to go to school, you have wished on me to get my education and graduate. And you told me to not drop out like my brothers. And Ma, for you, I’m not going to drop out.
Jewel: That’s what’s best for you. That’s what I taught you to do, good. (Little Mama shoots through the sky with her mom toward the other side of the planet.)
Little Star: You see that? Little Mama just shot by! She movin so quick! I gotta go catch her! If I don’t go catch her I will never see her again. Mama I’ll be back.
Jewel: Son, I don’t think you goin to be able to catch her. Her and her mom movin real quick!
Little Star: Watch me catch her! And if I get her can I bring her back?
Jewel: No you can’t bring her back! It’s enough with you! You a handful already! You don’t think you be movin too quick around here? I don’t even know where you at sometimes!
Little Star: I know!
Jewel: You can’t bring her or her Mom to my side. I think of you to do better with your life and do well in school. If you do well, you can have the earth, you’ll be able to run this. You can tell other stars what to do and where to move to around this earth. I don’t want nobody that don’t belong over here, over here. I got too much love for you son. I brought you into this world, I can take you out. You already got enough friends on this side. Son I want you to be the fastest star up there in the sky.
(Little Star shoots off after Lil Mama but then comes back)
Little Star: I couldn’t find her. She disappeared. (he’s cryin)
Jewel: It’s all right son.
Little Star: Yes, mom. Everything you telling me to do I’ma do. I’m not goin to chase that girl. Mom, I’ma take your word cause you brought me into this world and I love you with all my heart. If my dad was here he’d probably tell me to go chase after that girl like he used to do.
Jewel: That’s right son. Don’t be like your dad. You thinkin like a star now. You doin the right thing.
