AT RISE:

Scratchy is around the other car parts and is in the process of polishing himself to look good for the customers.

SCRATCHY
This is the last day of the Junkyard sale.  Yesterday I was almost bought by a nice woman whose poor car was hit by a bus.  She seemed like the type of lady who would take great care of me, washed me almost every weekend and polished me up so I can shine in her job’s parking lot.  If the owner soft self would’ve toned my price tag down I would’ve been bought by that lady.  I wonder what will happen to Blacky.  He reminds me of myself when I was a youngen out here in the Junkyard.  He is sometimes annoying but I really love him.  Speaking of the devil, here comes my youngen Black.

BLACKY
Scratchy!

SCRATCHY
What’s up, lil Bra?

BLACKY
What you doing?

SCRATCHY
Oh nothing, you know me tryna get ready for these people when they come over to buy me!

BLACKY
Buy you?  What happened to buy us?

SCRATCHY
Yeah yeah yeah, buy us then.  Why you sound like that lil Bra?

BLACKY
I don’t know, I really need to talk to you.  So can you stop polishing your stupid scar so you can listen to me?

SCRATCHY
Alrite make it quick.

BLACKY
I know that we’ve only known each other since being here at the junkyard.  I look at you as a Big Bra 4real 4real, but it seems at times you don’t care and you want to leave me.

SCRATCHY
Why are you being so absurd lil Bra, I wouldn’t do you like that.  We have too many things in common for me to leave you.  You are the lil bra that I always wanted.

BLACKY
You always tell me that but actions speak louder than words.  Today is the last day of the sale and it seems that we are growing apart by the day.

SCRATCHY
What are you exactly saying to me?

BLACKY
I’m saying that at times it seems that you don’t even care about me.

SCRATCHY
You know I do but at times I feel that I’ve came into this junkyard alone and I may leave alone also.  What would you like for me to do Blacky?  I want to get sold so I can travel the world and be taken care of.  You feel me?

BLACKY
Yeah but you tryna get on without me and you know I’m tryna rock with you 4real.

SCRATCHY
But what if we don’t get sold together at the same time?  Cuz I heard a fat guy say the other day that he needed a car door for his Lexus but he didn’t say nothing about a tire.

BLACKY
He ain’t the only one that can buy us.  There is someone else out there and if not then maybe we could take matters into our own hands tho Bra.  You ready for that?

SCRATCHY
You know I’m ready for whateva but then again I don’t be wanting to go dat far when I could have this opportunity to be looked at different than just a regular ol’ car door, I want this scratch removed so I could be back to normal like I was before I lost my parents in that car crash.  I want people to look at me with fame and fortune as if I was made of gold or something special like that.

BLACKY
We both could be looked at like that at the same time.  I just don’t want you to get on on me.  You’ve done taught me a lot since I met you.  My parents fell victim to the same stuff yours did.  This is the last day of the sale, we may never see each other again just because of some ol’ dude that say he need a car door.  That’s how you get down Scratchy?  If I would’ve known that before than I would’ve never showed you love like that.  So what you bout to do 4real Bra?

SCRATCHY
(puzzled)
I don’t know.  I never knew you really felt that way.  I guess I’m really Big Bra 4real.  It’s crazy cuz how we met and I put you under the wing and I would miss my youngen if I was to leave you.  What you think we should do so we could stay together?

BLACKY
I don’t know but we gotta stay close together so they’ll see both of us.  If not then we’ll be separated.

SCRATCHY
That’s a good idea Lil Bra.  Stay right here with ya Big Bra and it’ll be good.

BLACKY
If we don’t get sold I was thinking bout getting on from this junkyard cuz I ain’t tryna be at that stupid rubber company and made into something otha, feel me Bra.

SCRATCHY
I feel you, Bra, cuz Lord knows I don’ want to give my life to the recycling company.  They smash you into one large piece of metal and then I will be auctioned off to a local construction company and they might make me into a stupid railroad track to get ran over all day.  So I’m definitely ready to get on.

BLACKY
I wish that I…I mean, my family would’ve stopped the car then I wouldn’t even be in this situation.

SCRATCHY
Same here, If that stupid tire would’ve stopped that car from hitting me and my family off the cliff then my life would still be smooth.

BLACKY
(Guilty & Scared)
I…know…but that ain’t the circumstances right now.

SCRATCHY
O look there’s that guy who I was telling you about, hurry go roll yourself in that puddle so you can look almost brand new while I polish myself up.
(Blacky rolls over.)

BLACKY
(Nervous & Dreadful)
I hope everything goes as planned because I really want to live the life of a real tire and roll around all day.  The thing that’s tearing me up inside is the fact that I am the reason why Scratchy’s parents is not around.  I’m not going to tell him, tho.  What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.

SCRATCHY
(Nervous)
I hope this guy has enough money to buy me and my youngsta.  He really love his big bra, I ain’t gon do him like that.  Ima hold him down.
(Blacky comes back)

BLACKY
(referring to looks, excited)
I’m smooth, bra.

SCRATCHY
Yeah, shut up.  Here he comes.
(They sit together in a way that indicates that they want to be bought together.)
