CHARACTERS:
Doubtful the Podium, Male 2,000 years old Navaeh the Glass Horse Sculpture, Female 2,000 years old (Doubtful BF)
SETTING:
The lovely sun beaming into a museum. But all of the sculptures are still asleep and some are being cleaned. It’s a cool morning with a nice rosary smell. The museum is located in Botswana, Africa. The museum is getting ready to open for it’s century anniversary event.
TIME:
10:00 am on a lovely Saturday morning in the Fall
AT RISE:
Navaeh and Doubtful are in the dressing area having a conversation an hour before the opening

Description: A tale of Doubtful the podium who is trying to convince his friend Naveah the Glass Horse Sculpture to help him become more noticed in life
Navaeh
(Excited) Hey Doubtful! How are you this morning?
Are you excited about the big day?
Doubtful
(Depressed) Um, I am not sure if I’m ready for the big day. I’m really depressed
Navaeh
(Worried) Why Doubtful, what’s wrong?
Doubtful
(Unsure) Well I have this feeling…(Pause) that I am going to be replaced as your podium for today’s event
Navaeh
(Confused) Why do you think that? I have never said that
Doubtful
(Unsure) I know you didn’t say that, but I overheard the manager saying he’s going to make some “changes.”
Navaeh
(Shocked) Oh! I didn’t know about that. Well, don’t be so unsure about the changes because you are my best friend and we’re a team.
Doubtful
Navaeh; we need to talk!
Navaeh
(Concerned) About what Doubtful?
Doubtful
(Breathe) Well see I have been feeling very unnoticed for the last past 300 years.
It’s 40 minutes until the opening
Navaeh
(Bothered) Why have you kept this from me for 300 years?
Doubtful
I couldn’t tell you how I felt for the longest because you’ve been doing your thing and I didn’t want to stress you out about my feelings while you were inspiring people
Navaeh
No doubtful, that is were your wrong. I wouldn’t have been stressed out. And even if I was, friends are there to support one other and that’s what I’m here for; to support you and hear what you have to say.
Doubtful is anxiously wobbling
Doubtful
(Enthusiasm) So since you now want to hear what I have to say, well let me get str8 to the point. (Sarcastic) You have been in the spotlight for 2,000 years right? And not once has anybody noticed me. Well, I’m the one whose been holding you up. Why can’t I get any attention?
Navaeh
Doubtful, I don’t have control on the amount of attention your or I get
Doubtful
Okay, well I never had the courage to look in the mirror because I don’t feel as beautiful as you because you’re a beautiful glass sculptured horse and I’m just an old podium to hold you up.
Navaeh is lost for words. Doubtful is getting wobblier
Doubtful
I thought my purpose was to be noticed too. If I had a choice, I wouldn’t want to be a podium going unnoticed
Navaeh
(Curious) So what are you saying?
It’s 20 minutes to go until the opening
Doubtful
(Angry) I’m saying that I want to be noticed and if I can’t be, then I won’t be noticed at all!
Doubtful is wobbling to the point where he is getting out of control
Navaeh
(Horrified) Doubtful; you need to calm down. You’re going to knock stuff over.
Doubtful
What do you mean calm down? Even though I am a full grown podium, I want to feel the worth and beauty that you do
Navaeh
Doubtful; I was made to inspire people. My mother did it, her mother did it and it goes on and on. It runs in the family. The reason why my family and I inspire people is because we want to show them beauty inside and out
Doubtful is still rocking more and more out of control
Doubtful
(Demand full and irritated) Ok, but without me you wouldn’t be able to inspire people. So you need to start including me in or else I’ma rock until I drop and you will have to find someone else to hold you up!
Navaeh notices the clock. 10 minutes left until the grand opening.
Navaeh
You can’t because you will destroy the message that’s written on you about US…
Doubtful
What message?
Doubtful stops wobbling and listens
Navaeh
Ok Doubtful, I need you for one second to close your lid and wobble to your left. Then wobble straight forward two steps. Now open your lid
Doubtful opens his lid and sees that he is standing in front of a mirror. He begins to read the passage that’s engraved into his marble
Doubtful
(Surprised) Navaeh is a 2,000-year-old glass sculpture horse with an outstanding podium that was made out of marble. The sculpture comes from the African Zulu Tribe. Navaeh comes forth with this podium because beauty in itself can’t stand-alone. The inner and outer beauty together is what makes them a beautiful whole.
There is two minutes left before the event opens
Navaeh
So Doubtful when they notice me, the first things they do are read you and learn about us. You could never see the passage on you because it was above your lid. So now you can see your worth and importance
There’s 1 minute left to go
Doubtful
(Teary Eye) Wow! I finally see after 2,000 years just how valuable I really am. And I don’t feel less beautiful no more because I learned from my best friend what beauty inside and out is all about
Navaeh
So doubtful, do you still wanna go out there with me?
Doubtful
Yes, of course. I would be delighted
So they bring out Doubtful and Navaeh for display. Doubtful changed his mind and now loves himself, his best friend and the message he received.
