A Play by Andre

Time: Morning
Place: The Forest, by the River
At Rise: East-Hmm and Sexydex, two Grizzly Bears, are getting their breakfast of fish.

East-Hmm:
You see some fish, Dex?

Sexydex:
Yes I do, East-HMM.

East-Hmm:
OHH-ohoh! East-HMM!

Sexydex:
Help me get some fish.

East-Hmm:

For sure young Dex.

(They catch some fish)

Sexydex:

I got four fishes.

East-Hmm:

I got five fishes.

Sexydex:
Let’s eat.

(They eat the fish.)

East-Hmm:
The fish got me full, Dex.

Sexydex:
Can I ask you something?

East-Hmm:

About what?

Sexydex:
About that day?

East-Hmm:

Go ahead.

Sexydex:
Does it still hurt?

East-Hmm:

What you mean it still hurt? Hell yeah, it still hurt.

Sexydex:

You know this is the day you got shot, right?

East-Hmm:

Yeah, I know. One year ago. Me and you was playing around on the other side of the forest where we was not suppose to be, and a poacher came from outta nowhere and shot me. I don’t want to talk about it.

Why you bringing this up?

Sexydex:

I gotta tell you something.

East-Hmm:
What?

Sexydex:
I had a way for you to get to the City.

East-Hmm:
What you mean?

Sexydex:

I have a boat and I’ve had it since the accident.

East-Hmm:

Stop playin.

Sexydex:
I swear to God. G-O-D.

East-Hmm:

Why you ain’t never told me this?

Sexydex:
I did not want you to go.

East-Hmm:

But you know how I felt. How I wanted to get to the City so bad, to get my revenge.

Sexydex:

I know how you felt, but I don’t want you to leave me.

East-Hmm:

I was going to come right back.

Sexydex:

I thought you were going to get hurt.

East-Hmm:

I wasn’t going to get hurt.

Sexydex:

I kept it a secret for so long because you were so mad, and you was not thinking straight. You’d hear something and you’d get all jumpy-like. You changed and I didn’t want to see you do something stupid. I didn’t want revenge to be the last breath that you take. So to get that off your mind and that’s why we was fighting the Bamboo Boys for so long. You got so happy, I thought you forgot about it.

East-Hmm:

I think about it every day. I touch the bullet wound every day. The bullet wound start to hurt, it throbs. Every time I touch my bullet wound, I think of the day I got shot and how I could have died. I feel hot and ready to cry. Don’t know what to do. So I start pounding on other bears to get the anger out, because all that anger got me unstoppable. It helps a little bit but I still think about it because I’m not hurting the human who shot me. I can never forget the day I got shot. I almost lost my life. For so long my wish was to get my revenge. That’s why I wanted to fight so much, and take on as many bears as I could at one time. Because I didn’t care about anything.

Sexydex:

If I could take back time, I would’ve took the bullet for you.

East-Hmm:

If you would’ve took the bullet, you probably would’ve died and I would’ve been by myself.

Sexydex:

I’ll never leave your side except when you want to be alone. And I’m going to give you that respect. When you’re alone, I be scared for you.

East-Hmm:

That’s when I think. In the time when I was alone, I’ll go back to the other side of the forest looking to get revenge on anybody with or without a gun. Because I didn’t care about nothing but revenge. But now I really had a chance to think about what happened and how it happened so it won’t happen again. I’m always going to be on my toes. You know what? I don’t think I need to take nobody’s life no more. I’m always going to be mad at the person who shot me, but everybody doesn’t always get what they want. And that’s what I didn’t understand when it happened.

Sexydex:

So what you saying? You don’t want to go to the City.

East-Hmm:

Naw, big cousin, I’m going to stay with you until the end. Now say my name.

East-Hmm and Sexydex: (together)

OHH-ohoh! East-HMM!

The End.
