ESUMU is at home. He wakes up takes a shower in his little bathroom. Pulls a string and water comes down from a pipe.
TIS is at home. At her house. Doing the same thing.
After ESUMU takes a shower he goes and sees his girl. ESUMU runs on top of the roof and calls her from the window.
|
ESUMU
Tis! Tis! Are you there?
(TIS jumps in front of the window and scares Esumu.)
TIS
Ahh!
ESUMU
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
(ESUMU falls down in a garbage can)
TIS
(looking down) Are you Okay?
ESUMU
I’m’ fine. I’m fine.
TIS
I’ll be right down.
ESUMU
(dusting himself off) Man. Now I’m dirty again. I just finished taking a shower to come see my girlfriend and she scared me into a garbage can.
(ESUMU is in front of Tis’ Door and TIS storms out)
TIS
Come on. Come on. Let’s go before my daddy comes.
(They both leave to the rooftop)
TIS
Baby, I’m ready to leave already. I can’t stand being in there with my dad making love to his new wife and not paying attention to me. So what you say baby. You want to leave probably tomorrow? Probably the next day?
ESUMU
I don’t know.
TIS
What you mean you don’t know? You already decided we were gonna go.
ESUMU
I got something else on my mind.
TIS
You got another girlfriend?
ESUMU
No! I just got some family business.
TIS
What kind of family business?
ESUMU
I don’t want to talk about it.
TIS
Why not?
ESUMU
Because it’s family business. That means it’s none of your business.
(TIS stands shocked)
TIS
I understand baby. About your family business. Even though you never told me about it.
ESUMU
You know what? This is not a good day for us to start off acting like this.
(TIS gets mad)
TIS
Okay.
ESUMU
I’m sorry baby. I didn’t mean to talk to you like that.
TIS
Why can’t you just talk about it baby? Why can’t you just talk to me about it?
ESUMU
You know what, shut up. It doesn’t mean that you lost love from your dad. And you want to talk about my problem. I don’t know what to do anymore.
(TIS starts crying)
TIS
You know what. Today’s not a good day for us. Maybe we’ll try again tomorrow.
(TIS starts climbing down from the roof. Goes to her window and shuts it.)
ESUMU
Baby. Baby! I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
(ESUMU climbs back down and went back to the house. And went in and sees his little brother still eating. When he walked in and went straight to bed. Fell straight to the bed. And knocked out. While Esumu‘s sleeping he heard a lot of noises from the living room. He sees his pops drunk on the table)
ESUMU
What the cheese is this?! He sleepin’ on the damn table. Man, I cannot stand my damn pops. Man I’m leavin’. I’m finna’ go see my girlfriend again.
(ESUMU goes to his girlfriends’ house. She’s already there on top of the roof. He sneaks up on her to scare her. She is not scared. She is sad about yesterday.)
ESUMU
Baby what’s wrong?
TIS
Nothing. I’m just up here getting some fresh air. Waitin’ for you.
ESUMU
I’m sorry about yesterday. Yelling at you.
TIS
So baby, did you make your choice about leaving?
ESUMU
So you want to leave today? At one o’ clock?
TIS
No. How ‘bout let’s leave at three o’clock. ‘Cause my pops won’t be home at that time.
ESUMU
Okay. Tis…I have something I want to tell you.
TIS
What is it?
ESUMU
I was thinking about…never mind. We gonna meet back here at three, okay baby?
TIS
Don’t be late.
ESUMU
Okay. I won’t be late.
(ESUMU goes home and packs his stuff and gets ready and goes back to Tis’s house at three. He walks in from the front door)
ESUMU
Tis? Tis? Are you there?
TIS
Yeah. I’m upstairs. Come on up.
ESUMU
Is your dad here?
TIS
Don’t worry, my dad ain’t here.
ESUMU
Hi baby. Hi baby.
(ESUMU gives her a kiss)
ESUMU
Baby I got something to tell you. Remember what I said earlier and I said never mind?
TIS
Yeah.
ESUMU
Well. Baby. I have a little brother.
TIS
So what about him?
ESUMU
What you mean, so what about him?
(TIS just stands there and don’t say nothing’)
ESUMU
I want to be honest with you.
TIS
(worried) What is it?
ESUMU
Look. I can’t leave my little brother behind.
TIS
So what you sayin’, baby?
ESUMU
I don’t know if I’m going to leave with you.
(TIS just stands there quiet)
TIS
Through everything we talked about.
ESUMU
I know what we talked about. Running away. But I can’t. If I leave my little brother behind he’s going to die starving and looking for food. And my damn pops don’t even give a damn about him. So I’m just gonna put this out there to you. I’m going to stay with my little brother if you don’t want him to come.
(TIS just stands there silent)
ESUMU
Well I’m going home.
TIS
Wait a minute. I know you did not throw everything back we talked about. And walk away from me?
(ESUMU turns around)
ESUMU
You know what. Shut up. I’m tired of your selfish ass, okay?
I know you love me but I can’t just freakin’ leave my brother. He’s the only thing I have in my life. My brother is my blood and I love him so much. I ain’t gonna let my stupid ass girlfriend take me away from my little brother. I’m sorry for saying that but I’m just keeping’ it real.
TIS
(shocked) Huh!
ESUMU
Look. You can go ahead and go live your life and I’m gonna live my life with my little brother.
TIS
(In a mean way) So what does this mean, we’re breaking up?
ESUMU
Yeah.
(TIS start crying)
ESUMU
Look Tis! My wish is to take care of my little brother Taz.
TIS
What about my wish!
ESUMU
I don’t give a damn about your wish if you don’t care about my wish.
(TIS starts crying)
ESUMU
I’m sorry I have to leave you. But my family comes first. I remember my moms told me before she died “Family comes first no matter what.”
TIS
Fine. If you won’t go with me, I’m gonna find a new man and start a new life with that person. And have a family with him.
ESUMU
Go ahead. As long as I got my brother on my side then I don’t give a damn about you anymore.
TIS
What about your dad? Didn’t you say you were scared of him? That he always beats you up.
ESUMU
Yeah. Even though I’m scared of my dad, I have to live with it. If it wasn’t for him to bring me in this world I wouldn’t be here. I still love him. And he still is my father. No matter what.
TIS
Out of everything you told me about your pops. That he beats you up and eats all the food.
ESUMU
Shut up. Like I said, he still is my pops and I love him. And I know he loves me deep inside his heart. Look Tis, I know your pops don’t pay attention to you but he still loves you. So just go home and tell your pops how you feel. And then he will realize the whole time how you feel.
(ESUMU walks over and gives TIS a kiss on the cheek)
ESUMU
Bye Tis.
(TIS just stands there sad while ESUMU walks away from their relationship.)
