FAMILY DRAMA!
02/1/2014
by Marques C. Characters: Eager, the Eagle – 15 years old, bird years. Ti’ger, the Tiger– 10 years old in tiger years.
Setting: It takes place on a nice summer afternoon around 12:00pm.
At Rise: Eager just waking up in his nest, thinking about how to start the day. Eager decides he wants to go to the zoo to meet up with his cousin Ti’ger.
(Eager leaves nest and flies to the zoo.) EAGER (Thinking about what he and his dad talked about) I hope my mom can forgive my dad for cheating. They really need to be together. The conversation didn’t go too well last night with my dad. I wonder what my cousin Ti’ger is going to have to say about this. He usually always know what’s best.
(Eager lands on top of Ti’ger’s cage and calls out for him to look up.)
EAGER Ti’ger! Man, you have to wake up. I have something to tell you.
TI’GER I’m up Eager – you always coming here so early in the morning. I don’t see how you do it.
EAGER Early bird catches the worm first.
TI’GER Truuuuue!
EAGER Ti’ger it’s been something on my mind and I don’t know how to fix this problem.
TI’GER What’s the problem Eager?
EAGER Well, I talked to my dad last night and he told me that him and my mom broke up because she found him cheating.
TI’GER What? So your dad is a Player?
EAGER Well as far as I am concerned yes, but I can’t let them break up.
TI’GER And why is that?
EAGER Because we need to be together. We are a family, and family stays together.
TI’GER Well you are right. Me, my mom, and my dad are still together. Too bad your parents aren’t.
EAGER (says to crowd) I just found out about my parents’ situation and I thought I could talk to my cousin Ti’ger about it because we are close and I can tell him anything, but it seems like today Ti’ger is on some other… What should I do?
TI’GER We all have problems Eager. We just need to get on with it and live our lives.
EAGER I came to you for help – not for you to turn this whole thing around on me.
TI’GER Well you know I have a problem too. My dad hasn’t been giving me the attention I need because he says something about me not dong the right thing. EAGER I can agree with that. You’re not doing what you are suppose to do. Ever since this conversation started you have been taking me or this situation as a joke. And I don’t like it.
TI’GER Well you know we all don’t like somethings in life. But if you’re not feeling me or my conversation you don’t need the cage unlocked to leave. You can fit through the bars. (Ti’ger points to the top of the cage.)
EAGER It’s going to take more than you just telling me to leave for me to disappear. (Eager starts flying around the cage challenging Ti’ger.)
TI’GER How dare you try to challenge me in my own home. I will not accept that.
EAGER I also won’t accept the fact that you’re acting funny and I never did anything to you. I guess it’s that time of the month for you. (Eager makes a silly face towards Ti’ger.)
TI’GER Ha, ha! Very funny but no. This is my house – I can say and do what I please. (Ti’ger looks embarrassed.)
EAGER What’s up Ti’ger? I know something is bothering you. What is it?
TI’GER You wouldn’t understand even if I told you. No one understands me. (Ti’ger looks sad and stressed out.) EAGER (Gets closer to Ti’ger and tries to read his mind by facial expressions.) You can tell me anything Ti’ger. What’s on your mind?
TI’GER I don’t think I could help you because I have a problem of my own. My mom is pregnant with my little brother or little sister. Ever since my dad found out that my mom was pregnant they haven’t been showing me the attention I need. It’s stressing me out. I haven’t been the same since. EAGER You know what! I don’t have time for this – if you’re going to try to help me let’s go but if not I have to get my mom and dad back together. TI’GER Fine leave then I don’t need your help. (To crowd) See I really need my cousin to help me. Honestly I know his situation is worse than mine but I still feel that he could help. But if he’s gone to leave, then hit the road jack!
(EAGER flies away from Ti’ger’s cage and without a word and leaves Ti’ger in his cage.)
(One month later. EAGER wakes up in nest feeling stressed out about his mom and dad situation.)
EAGER (To crowd) I know my cousin disrespected me the last time I was with him. Yes I know our conversation didn’t go to well. But by me being the older cousin I need to be the bigger cousin in the situation and tell him I’m sorry even though he’s the one who needs to be apologizing. He may just want to help me after all. I’m really stressed out. I couldn’t get my parents back together. Maybe it was meant for me to help him in his situation first. I don’t feel complete without them.
(EAGER leaves nest and flies in the wind to go meet Ti’ger. EAGER lands on top of Ti’ger’s cage, then flies inside.)
TI’GER Long time no see.
EAGER I know right. You probably wasn’t expecting me but I’m here.
TI’GER So what do you want to talk about now. (Ti’ger has a little attitude.)
EAGER I wanted to say I am sorry for the last time even though I feel you should be apologizing.
TI’GER Why should I accept your apology?
EAGER Because life is all about forgiving and just moving on with our lives.
TI’GER I guess you’re right. I accept your apology.
EAGER I still didn’t get my mom and dad back together but that’s not important right now. How is your problem with your Dad?
TI’GER Well, I’ve got some good news and bad news.
EAGER What’s the news?
TI’GER The good news is that me and my dad have been getting along great.
EAGER That’s good Ti’ger I was hoping everything went well with you guys.
TI’GER But the bad news is that he told me that I wasn’t right for how I acted towards you when we had our last conversation. I’m really sorry Eager. I know I could have helped you because your situation was worse and I could have help some type of way. (Ti’ger feels and looks emotional.)
EAGER It’s alright we all make mistakes. It’s how we learn from them.
TI’GER You know you’re right. I have an idea.
EAGER What’s your idea cuzo?
TI”GER We have a job to do let’s go get your mom and dad back together. That’s the least I owe you.
EAGER Are you serious? TI’GER Yes, let’s go. Time is ticking! (Thinking out loud) I know my dad is going to respect me now. Even if we don’t get Eager’s mom and dad back together he is going to respect the fact that I tried. THE END
MONOLOGUES
MONOLOGUE #1/ EAGER, THE EAGLE
Hi! My name is Eager the Eagle. I once lived together with my parents now I live by myself on top of a roof in a clean nest. I would love to live together with my parents but they have been going through some hard times. My mom is disgusted with my dad because she found out that he was cheating. It is kinda hard for my mother to get pass this but I think they should just squash all the bull horns. I want my family back as one just like my close cousin Ti’ger the Tiger and his family. Ti’ger slightly thinks he’s better than me because his mom and dad is together and mine are not. We were very close at one point but we fell off when he started acting different. If I can fix this problem this will be a dream come true! I want to be able to build back up the relationship me and my cousin once had when we were younger. We were so close that a magnet couldn’t get us any closer. If we build the relationship we had I think he would be able to help me with my problem. But if none of this works out I guess this is how things were meant to be. Yes, I know that I am kind of living better than my family, but I would trade this all for a complete family and also for being around family who I love the most. What’s the point of living be without having or being loved. That’s all I want in my life.
MONOLOGUE #2/ TI’GER, THE TIGER
Hi my name is Ti’ger the Tiger. Something have been on my chest for a very long time, and I need to fix this fast. I felt that I was better than my cousin Eager the Eagle because my parents are together and his fell apart. We haven’t had contact in like a month. Everyday I been thinking that I need to find him so that I can help him with his problem and get this dirt off my chest. I am stuck even if I wanted to help I couldn’t because I’ve been locked in this cage. I need to find a way out. It racing thoughts going through my mind but one thing for sure I know I need to help my cousin. We were close before this conflict occurred and now we are separated. God do you have any answers for me?
