Family First

Characters:

Tyrex, a rednose pitbull – age 17.  He has a son and a daughter at age 5 and 6, with a wife named Bella, at age 16.

Xray, a rednose pitbull – age 19.  Cousin to Tyrex.  He had a girlfriend that passed away 4 years ago.  He had been with her 8 years.

 

Setting:  In the alley garage, at 8am in the morning.

 

At Rise:  Xray is chilling at his house, getting ready to head over to Tyrex’ house, while he is finishing eating his breakfast.  He is nervous and thinking of what Tyrex is going to react on what he needs to tell him.

(Xray goes outside to smell and enjoy the early morning breeze. 

Xray is now on his way to Tyrex’ house.)

 

XRAY

I’m hoping that my cousin understands that I need to leave the city soon.  I really need to rank up on my street fighting record.  It’s my last chance.  I really don’t want Tyrex to think different about me if I leave, even if he don’t want me to.

(Xray is now walking faster.)

I just really want to get this over with. 

(Arrives at Tyrex’ house.  Barks and waits for Tyrex to come outside.)

 

 

(Tyrex comes out with a tired, exhausted face.)

 

XRAY

Good mornin’ Tyrex, nice day today, huh?  Sun out, no clouds or anything.  How’s Chico and Killa – are they up yet?

 

TYREX

Wussup X, yea, nice day today.  You woke me up.  I was sleepin’ like a beast – ha, ha!  Chico and Killa still inside resting, they had a long day yesterday.  We went to the park and played some ball, they had a blast playing, ha, ha!  But wussup with you – what you doing around here this early?

 

XRAY

I see – It sounds like you guys had a good time – that’s good.  No invite, huh?  Shady.  What am I doing around this early huh?  Mmm we need to talk Tyrex.

 

TYREX

Talk huh . . . Want to go inside and talk?

 

XRAY

Sure . . .

(They both walk up into Tyrex’ cage.)

 

TYREX

So what is it that you need to tell me X?

 

(Xray stays quiet for a couple of seconds not knowing how to let it out.)

 

TYREX

Speak up!  Don’t just sit there looking stupid.

 

XRAY

I don’t appreciate the way you talking to me, better watch that tone before it’s funk –

TYREX

Shut up, and tell me what you need to tell me before I kick yo ass out of my cage!!

 

XRAY

I need to leave the city for a couple of years – maybe like 10 – 15.

 

(Tyrex sits there no knowing how to respond to that.)

 

XRAY

Yea you heard me – I don’t need to repeat it again!

 

 

TYREX

So tell me . . . What’s more important that you need to leave your family behind?

 

XRAY

Remember how – long time ago, I had to leave the city for a couple of years also for that street fighting tournament, but I stayed because I wanted to be there for Chico and Killa, ‘cause I knew how much they look up to me and if I’m not there I know its going to be hard for you but this time I’m goin’ and nothing is stopping me!!!

 

TYREX

Oh really – nothing is stopping you, huh?!

 

XRAY

I came over here just to talk to you and let you know what’s goin’ on, but you over here actin’ like an ass and now I’m really getting pissed off!!

 

TYREX

Lower down your voice there cousin . . . so when is it that you need to leave?

 

XRAY

Tomorrow night . . .

 

 

TYREX

(Puts his head down feeling sad.) Why are you barely telling me this?

 

XRAY

Because we been rocking together since we were kids and I knew this was goin’ to be a hard thing for you.  Just like it is for me.

 

TYREX

What about Chico and Killa . . . haven’t you thought about how this is goin’ to affect them?!

XRAY

I have but this is my dream, Tyrex.  You should understand where I’m coming from!  You act like I was never there for you to help you raise Chico and Killa . . . Dont  be ungrateful for what I have done for you Tyrex!!

 

TYREX

(With a mad face) Have you thought about your life?!  Its dangerous out there. Quit being selfish and think about how many dogs have died out there!!

 

XRAY

So!  Its nothing  – I’m ready for whatever – thought you knew Tyrex!!  We grew up on that – Savage like – not fearing nothing or anyone!!

 

TYREX

I know but you aint got no one to back you up.  Most of them dogs be funny – trying and set a dog up ‘cause they hating at the fact that you will be bigger and stronger than them!

 

XRAY

I’ve been training for this Tyrex.  If them funny dogs want to get roudy with me I can take them all out one by one!

 

TYREX

I dont know X.  You’re risking your life but if thats really what you want to do . . . do what you gotta do.  Think about your family – thats all I gotta say!!

 

XRAY

I’ll make sure to be back.  Don’t stress about a thing.  I’ll be good, cousin.  I’ll be back before you even know it.  You know I keep my word.  Family above everything.  You cant trust no new faces!!

 

TYREX

I’m trusting you on this one.  Be safe and show them little weak dogs how it gets done cousin!!

XRAY

I’m glad you understood.  You know I’ll never betray family, ‘cause family means everything to me.

TYREX

Yup you know it.  You be safe out there once again and keep in mind  – show no mercy…!  I gotta go X.  Keep your head up.  Much love!

 

XRAY

(Gives Tyrex a hug.)  Thank you cousin.  I gone.  Tell the little ones Killa and Chico, that I’ll be back in no time.

 

TYREX

Is good – will do.

 

(Xray exits Tyrex’ cage.)

MONOLOGUES

 

MONOLOGUE #1/ TYREX, THE REDNOSE DOG

I have a problem – my cousin Xray needs to leave the city to earn and rank more respect, but I need him to stay because my kids dont just look up to me but also to [their] uncle, and if he leaves, Chico and my daughter wont have another dog to look up to when I’m not there.  It makes me mad at the fact that Xray rather go risk his life on getting’ killed than to stay and help me raise my dogs the right way – Savagely and aggressive – ready to fear no one or nothing just like how we were this whole time we been together.  (Tyrex gets emotional  because he’s been rockin’ with Xray since they were kids and all of a sudden he wants to bail on him.)  Just to go risk his life when he don’t have anyone to back him up – Just like we were there for each other.  I know that if Xray leaves and he makes new friends, they might say that they’ll be there for him, this and that, but when it come down to the funk, they wouldn’t be there like I was ready for whatever because family means the world to me.  I really need Xray to stay because since day one that my dogs started to realize that life wasn’t easy, Chico and my daughter looked up to Xray and me so Chico and [my] daughter wants to be just like [us[ – be there for each other.  I’m feelin’ betrayed.  I cant believe Xray rather be selfish than realizing that if he was to die,  [it] would really affect Chico and my daughter.  I need Xray in my life.

 

 

 

 

 

MONOLOGUE #2/ XRAY, THE REDNOSE DOG

I’m confused – my cousin Tyrex needs me to stay.  He says that if I leave it can really affect him and Chico and his daughter.  I need to leave the city for a couple years so I can rank my respect and my street fighting record.  But I don’t want Tyrex thinking that I betrayed him.  I feel really irritated at the fact that Tyrex  thinks I’m bein’ selfish when  I’ve been there  for him on everything he needs, and now that I need to leave he’s sayin’ that I’m betraying him by leavin’ and rankin’ up on my street fighting record – when that’s my dream – to rank up the most I can, so the soft dogs can really fear me.  I see a lot of dogs walking around like they big and bad thinking that I wont do nothing if I gets disrespected.  They think I wont do nothin’ but if I show them who the big and bad one really is, they’ll respect me.  Thats really important to me because I dont want them dogs thinking Im soft and that I wont do nothin’.  I want dogs to know who I am across the citys so when they see me they respect me.  Tyrex says that if I go without no backup, I can get killed by bein’ set up.  I – my whole life – have never feared nothing.
