I TOLD YOU SO

Characters: Sun, the older sister Moon, the younger sister
Setting: The universe. They are in space across from each other with Earth between the two of them.
Time: It is a full moon on a summer day sometime in the future.
At Rise: Moon is taking Suns’ light.
SUN Why are you doing this? We’re supposed to work together and give light to Earth as a team! We work together, me and you, and we are supposed to give light to Earth together. Me at day and you at night, it’s just the way we work together… You’re my sister. We’re supposed to love each other and be here for one another and all you want to do is hurt me. MOON Well, I don’t want to work together anymore. I hate you! You get to experience what people do at day. You give them warmth and I want that. You’ve always been stronger than me and I want to be stronger and bigger than you. People like you more than they like me. All I get to see is people sleeping and empty highways. It’s no fun. SUN You need me. You need my light. If it wasn’t for my light, you wouldn’t exist. MOON I don’t need you. I can do this all by myself. I just need you to give me your light and I will be fine. SUN (Screaming) You need my light? I already give you my light. But you want too much of it. I can only give you so much. You want me to dwindle and I can’t let you do that to me. Earth needs me. We can do this together, me and you as a team like we always have. MOON I don’t want to work with you. If anything, I just want to absorb your light and overcome you. SUN (Screaming) You want what? I can’t believe this. You’re my sister! How can you want to overcome me! Without me, you’re nothing. Without me, you wouldn’t even be here! MOON I will take over your powers and you’ll be gone. Earth won’t need you. It’ll need me – Moon. I’ll shine light on people to give them warmth and feel happy. SUN Either you work with me or don’t. I can’t take it anymore, beaming onto earth and you taking advantage of my light. All I stay for is you – to give you light so you can help people at night. I could be shining light on different planets right now if it wasn’t for you holding me back….You’re just jealous of me. MOON You are getting me heated. You’ve always got what you wanted. Now it’s my turn to get what I want. SUN What do you mean, “I’ve always got what I wanted?” MOON You’re the sun. The earth needs you. It needs you to grow plants and many other things the world only needs me to be able to see at night. I want to be important – even more important than you. SUN You are never going to be more important than me. I’m the sun. The world, the universe needs me. You’re crazy if you think you’ll overcome me. That’s why we have to work as a team to help out earth. We’ve been doing this for years. We can keep doing this. MOON What if you leave me all your responsibilities? I’ll take care of making sure plants grow healthy, gardeners grow their food. Everything will be perfect…You go away and take a load off. And I’ll stay and take over. Take a break from everything – you can go to your other planets that you want to explore. It’ll be just like a vacation.
You’ll be relaxed. You don’t have to worry about anything. I’ll take care of everything for you.
SUN You expect me to just leave you all my responsibilities as the sun and just go away. And not worry about Earth. And what’ll happen to it if I leave? What if I leave and come back and find everything on earth is messed up? I don’t know if I can trust you. MOON
You can trust me. I’m your sister. You won’t have to worry one bit. I promise. SUN Just because you’re my sister, doesn’t mean I’ll just leave Earth to you. You’ve hated me all these years. You’ve never shown me you love me. You’ve always been so distant to me. You’ve always talked smack to me, bullied me. You’re disrespectful to me. MOON You are so shiny today and bright. You look beautiful. You know you can trust me. SUN You’re just saying that so that you can get what you want. But it’s not going to work with me. I’m not stupid. MOON Sis, you know I mean it. You know that you are the most beautiful, brilliant thing in the universe…That was a while ago. Let it go. C’mon sis, you can leave me everything. It’s easy! Just go away. But before you leave, make sure you leave me enough light.
Sun decides to leave the earth for a whole year and gives her sister Moon enough light for a whole year, so Moon can see how it is to be her. Moon is happy that her Sister decided to leave her light. A year passes…She realizes it is not as easy as she thought it would be, to be the sun and the moon at the same time. Sun returns. SUN Oh my goodness! What happened here? I leave you for a year with what you wanted and you mess my world up. You didn’t have enough energy for day and night. Food hasn’t been grown. Everything just looks dried up. And people at night can’t see. MOON It was exhausting. I couldn’t take it. It is too much for me. Having to deal with what goes on at night, and what goes on at day. I’m sorry. I should’ve never treated you the way I did. I should’ve never thought I could be the moon and the sun at the same time. It’s too much to handle. I should’ve appreciated you more and what you do for this world. I realized I actually do need you to make this world work. Without you, I’m nothing. SUN I told you it wasn’t easy to be the sun. It’s hard work. I love you and I hope that now you and I can work together. MOON I love you and I want to work together. I think me handling night is enough for me. We can do this together. Done deal sis!
