ROCKY
Dammit, Mars. Why does everything have to be yo way?
MARS
It don’t . . . I just don’t see why all of a sudden you wanna change up.
ROCKY
Blood, don’t nobody wanna change up, I just wanna start living my life right, start making my family proud. Space ship, not just my family . . . I wanna make my self proud.
MARS
What da frick you mean, start living yo life right? You live da same life everybody else live. So what you saying, I’m not living my life right? What, Black and Bolder ain’t either?
ROCKY
Now, blood, I’m just sayin’ —
MARS (interrupting)
Now it sound like you wanna leave . . .What, you think you better den us or something?
ROCKY
See, this is why me and you fight all the time. It’s either yo way or da Milky Way. . . . Let me ask you something. Why we beefin’ wit Pluto, anyway? Matter fact, who started da beef?
MARS
What!!. . . .I know you didn’t really just ask me that. Dude, who you think started da beef? . . .Matter fact, who fired at who first? Us or them? Man, sometimes I think you beyond a asteroid. You like a pile of moon dust . . .soft.
ROCKY
Come on, my meteorite, don’t even come at me like dat. Cuz when Black and Bolder both got hit, I was da one who fired da laser first while yo astro was on da dark side smoking pixie dust and chillin’. So don’t talk to me about soft.(Pause) See, look now, we fightin’ again . . .All I want is to change my life and how I’m living, not change my friends or da fam.
MARS
Now you is trynna change da fam. All you want to do is leave with dat damn star Twinkle. Now I see why you actin’ soft on me. Is this why you wanna change yo life — for her?
ROCKY
Man, I’m tryna change my life for ma fam, not just me or her. If you take the time to realize dat, you’ll see when I say da fam I’m talking bout you, Moms, Tink, Black, Bolder and yea, Twinkle. Cuz whether you like it or not, brah, she part of my fam now and I’ll like it if she can be part of ours, not just mine.
MARS
What, you . . . .
ROCKY (interrupting)
Naw, brah, just listen. I’m tired of living in orbit like diz. I’m tired of runnin’ out of our orbit, I’m tired of runnin’ in da shuttle, tired of runnin’ from da astronauts and da space station and, most importantly, I’m tired of worrying about me or you, even Twinkle, being one of da next one’s being hit.
MARS
Come on, my meteorite, that’s why you don’t think about it . . .Hell, look at me, I don’t think about it and I’m fine.
ROCKY
My meteorite, I am lookin’ at you. You look just as worried as I am, you just don’t know how to show it.
MARS
What you mean, I don’t know how to show it? I show a lot of stuff.
ROCKY
Den why you don’t really show? Or just tell me why you think it’s such a bad idea for me to go off and change my life?
(Vooom Voom ! bang! bang! (Pause) Kabooom!)
(Very loud noises as ROCKY & MARS are shot at by lasers; they duck, fall, then run.)
(Pause.)
MARS
Aw, space ship. Go, Rocky, go. . . .Brah, you all right?
ROCKY
Yea. (Pause)You hit?
MARS
Naw, you?
ROCKY
Naw, I’m good. See, that’s exactly what I’m talking bout.
MARS
Naw, datz what I’m talking bout. See, you too busy trying to change and not busy enough focusing on what’s going on around us. Because of that, we got shot at again. See, we just almost died cuz of you.
ROCKY
What!!? Because of —
MARS (interrupting)
Yeah, because of you we got shot at. Why can’t you just understand it from my point of view?
ROCKY
Yo point of view? Yo point of view is —
MARS (interrupting)
What — wrong? See, datz what you don’t get. What, you think I like living like this? Out here beefin’ and shootin’ at planets, gettin’ shot at by them, you think I like this space ship? Well, truth is I don’t. I don’t like getting fired at, nor do I like firing back. But how am I supposed to change when this is all I know? I’m not like you, Rock, I don’t have everything else like you. I don’t have da good and smart girlfriend like you, I don’t have da family or support you got. But this right here, this orbit, this shuttle, that’s it. That’s all I got. Space ship, I don’t even have a family no more.
ROCKY
What you mean, you ain’t got a family and da support? You got me, Moms, Tink, Black, Bolder, and hell, She don’t even like you but even Twinkle want you to come with us. It’s like the old sayin’, don’t forget but forgive. You don’t have to forget da orbit, I just want you to forgive it for what it made you. Cuz if you don’t, it ain’t gone forgive you, it’s gone take you down.
MARS
But how? I don’t know nothing else.
ROCKY
Look at me. I’m bout to go to Astronomy University, and it’s not cuz I forgot about our orbit, it’s dat I didn’t. I know where I came from and still made da change. Now look, I’m going to school, I’ma be safe, free, and most importantly, I’m getting married. Now how you gone see me do all dat if you dead out in space or locked up in the space station, huh? So what you say, brah, you ready to change or what?
MARS
Yea, I’m ready but . . . .
ROCKY (interrupting)
Ain’t no buts. We family, right?
MARS
Yea, we family.
ROCKY
And I’m supporting you, right?
MARS
Yea!!
ROCKY
And you know I got yo back
MARS
Yea!!!
ROCKY
Den come on wit yo hard planet astro.
MARS
Man!
ROCKY
Man what?
MARS
Man, you lucky we fam. But if Twinkle go, den Venus go too.
ROCKY
Aww, space ship . . .All right, brah. Ay, my meteorite, I love you, brah!
MARS
I love you too, brah.
THE END
