SETTING: The Desolate Corner of the Milky Way, where PLUTO & URANUS reside TIME: THE FUTURE AT RISE:
PLUTO is orbiting in his corner of the Milky Way
PLUTO I Can’t Believe that No one considers me a Planet anymore. It’s completely Humiliating! Everyone picks on me, and makes fun of me, calling me a Dwarf Planet… But little do they know, I got a plan: Not only will I be a Planet again, I’ll be the Best Planet in the whole Milky Way!
( URANUS orbits over to PLUTO )
URANUS Hey, PLUTO… What’s up?
PLUTO Just Day-dreaming about becoming a planet again…
URANUS You know you’re still a planet to me, forget what everyone else thinks. You still have me. PLUTO Not for Long! You’re turning into a Black Hole, and you can die any day now. And when you leave, I’m gonna be stuck here all by myself, being a Dwarf Planet! (She cries a little )
PLUTO Oh, ANN, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it like mean like That…
URANUS It sounds like you did… So now You’re being mean to me too? You know I’m going through a lot, with Earth breaking up with me, and …everything.
PLUTO I didn’t mean it! I just have a lot on my mind too, you know …everyone making fun of me, and …everything. It’s just a lot. You know you’re my favorite sister—
URANUS I’m your Only sister, Pluto…
PLUTO Exactly! Because no one is good enough to take the spot of Being my sister but YOU. You’re the Best.
URANUS Awww Pluto…, you always know what to say… I’ll miss that when I’m gone. I’m happy that you’re gonna be by my side for my last days!
PLUTO Well… I have something I need to tell you. It’s about becoming a Planet again.
URANUS Really?! That’s Great!
PLUTO I KNEW you would be excited! So, you know how I line up with Earth every Billion years?
URANUS (deadpan) Yeah…
PLUTO I’ve been thinking about it since the last time I lined up with him and, if you look, that just happens to be today. And I’ve been doing the Math on it… If you bump me just right, I can orbit over there and knock him out of the way, then I’ll be the Best Planet in the Galaxy!
URANUS You can’t do that! PLUTO Why Not? You know he is the one who got everyone to start saying “Uranus, is a Black Hole”? He sucks!
URANUS I don’t care about that! What I’m worried about is Dying over here all alone.
PLUTO I don’t want you to die by yourself –I don’t want you to die at all! You’re my big sister. I love you. But …I have Dreams! If I stay here I’ll never be a Planet again. And not only will I have lost you, I will have lost my opportunity to have Life. URANUS So, you just wanna leave me? Like that? After all we’ve been through? You’re my brother –family is suppose to stick together!
PLUTO It’s not even like that, Ann. I’m miserable over here! No one even talks to me! And when they do, they’re just making fun of me because I’m frozen and I have No Life on me. And when you’re gone, I’m gonna be here all alone– Then what am I gonna do?
URANUS So What? You want me to bump you over there, so you can have the time of your life? And then I die all alone? I can’t do that.
PLUTO Really? You want me to stay, so I can be here with no one else for millions of years? Not only that, but I’ll die alone too, and will have done nothing with MY life!
URANUS You’re being selfish, Pluto.
PLUTO Me? I’M being selfish? Why don’t you take a look at yourself? You’re sitting here wanting me to waste my life away. When I can over there and be great for the both of us. I mean, I love you Ann. And I’m sorry you’re dying. Really I am. But I have to be a Planet, not only for me but for you.
URANUS (ASIDE) Maybe he’s right. Maybe I AM being selfish. But I’m dying here, you know? I can’t just have No one by my side, I just can’t do it. ( to PLUTO ) I’m sorry Pluto, I can’t help you…
PLUTO Well if you can’t help me, I guess I’ll just have to help myself. And when I drift out there, I MIGHT not make it. I might just keep going and drift out of the Milky Way… And it will be All your fault. (PLUTO starts spinning around fast, winding himself up to shoot himself out of his orbit and knock Earth out of the way)
URANUS Wait, Pluto! I need to tell you something before you leave. (PLUTO slows down to listen)
URANUS Well, I may have been the one who …told everyone that you shouldn’t be a planet anymore. So I can have more time with you, to myself.
PLUTO I can’t believe you would do that, Uranus! Forget this, I’m out of here! (PLUTO begins his journey to knock Earth out of the way, but his sister stops him at the last second)
URANUS Pluto, Stop! I’m Sorry! I can’t let you risk your life, I’ll help you.
PLUTO Really? URANUS Really. It’s the least I can do, after what I put you through.
PLUTO See? THAT’S exactly why you’re my favorite sister!
(She bumps PLUTO through the Milky Way, and he knocks Earth out of orbit and takes his place, to start a new life)
