At the bottom of the Devastation clan’s mountain. It’s night and the weather is freezing cold. The sounds of howls and the scent of marked territory are in the air. The starts shine through the dark cloak of the sky.

11:50 pm on the time of the Midnight Sun. |
| AT RISE: |
Havok is double checking his plans with Fear the Hawk, his friend. Shadow is pacing back and forth thinking of her plan.

Shadow
Hey Havok can I talk to you for a minute?
Havok
Um… wait up. I’m just finishing up these last ideas.
Shadow
Well it’s kind of important!
Havok
Ok wait…(Havok walks towards Shadow) Yeah what’s up?
Shadow
Um…About tonight I don’t______
Havok
Oh no….Again with this? We’ve talked about…I have to do it. It’s my only chance Shadow.
Shadow
Yeah. You’ve told me that a thousand times already but please I don’t want you to go. I don’t want anything to happen to you.
Havok
Nothings going to happen Shadow. I’ve waited so long for this. Please can’t you understand?
Shadow
Havok I can understand how you must have felt about your clan throwing you out. I know the loneliness, but revenge doesn’t solve anything. There isn’t any point____
Havok
You don’t understand Shadow. How would you feel if your family, your own father humiliated you, threw you out and is still wanting your head.? I felt lonely at first…I had no family except my sister…but now, This rage fuels me! I hate my father for the humiliation. I detest running. I’m not a coward. I just want to live in peace, but to get it, I have to destroy him.
Shadow
You’re right Havok. I’ve no idea of that feeling because my family was always good to me. But don’t think for a second I don’t want revenge against someone. But I know I’m better than that.
Havok
Ha. Don’t try to compare yourself to me. You don’t know how I feel.
Shadow
My family was killed right in front of my eyes. They spared no one. Not even the cubs. I was lucky to escape. So don’t say I don’t know how you feel. We’ve both lost our families you S.O.B.!
(Havok paces back and forth)
Havok
Shadow. Understand. Get it in your thick head that I have to kill him! It’s now or never because if I try to attack him another time I’m sure I’ll die at the hands
Shadow
You’re so fixed on your idiotic revenge that you don’t see the good things that are right in front of you!
Havok
( turns away from Shadow)
There is nothing that is or will be good unless I end him now. Please leave. The Midnight Sun will start in a couple of minutes and they’ll be surprised. Today I’m not the one that’s dying!
Shadow
I’m not leaving until you see what you’ve become! You aren’t like this! You’re sweet and harmless. Havok look at me! (Havok turns to look at Shadow.) So what if you get your so called revenge huh?
Havok
I’ll finally have peac_____
Shadow ( tearing up)
You’ll have anything but peace. You’re going to end up dead, not physically because your Midnight Sun grants you invincibility-ya-da-ya-da! But you’ll end up dead inside… Your hatred will poison you! I thought you cared about your sister and me.
Havok
I do car____
Shadow
No! You don’t cause you can’t see how this will effect us. Well if you do accomplish this, I’m gone and I’m taking your sister with me. She doesn’t need someone so fixed on blood.
Havok
I need to do it Shadow. Don’t you care about my dreams?
Shadow
I did care when I thought your dreams weren’t so suicidal. I thought “ Hey, well there must be no other way for him.” But there’s no need for revenge to find peace.
Havok
How would you know?
Shadow.
Cause it was your clan that slaughtered my family! At first I wanted nothing more than to get my paws on them but I learned to deal with that bitterness because nothing will bring them back. Then I found you!
Havok (shocked)
WwWhat are you trying to say?
Shadow
Before, I was darkened by so much hatred. But then I found you, and you shone through the dark. Both you and your sister have been like family to me and I forgot all about that rage! Now I would like to have my own family and I would want no other person but you to be with me. It’s your choice, Your revenge and living in emptiness afterwards or a new family and running away from all this and finding peace…
Havok
(Looks up to the sky)
I don’t know… Why don’t you fight alongside with me. The Midnight Sun is here.
Shadow
Are you freakin’ serious? Of course not! Answer this… What’s more important, us or them?
Havok
I don’t know.
Shadow
(walking away slowly)
I’m not stopping you anymore…Go! The Midnight Sun won’t disappear for 15 more minutes. You didn’t choose but I chose for you. You’ve made it perfectly clear what you want…Bye!
(Shadow exits)
Havok
Wait. (Havok talks to audience) Although I would have followed my plans for revenge, it’s better off to start something new than keep on living in the past. My family and my father shunned me and if I go after them I’m no better then them. I won’t be like that with my new family.
