Playwriting workshop each one reach one at YOUTH SERVICES CENTER NOVEMBER 17, 2012 MENTOR: TESSA TITLE OF PLAY: SILVER AND JIMMY BY MARLENE P. CHARACTERS: JIMMY, A UNICORN 20 YEARS OLD SILVER FIRE, A PEGASUS 15 YEARS OLD SETTING: UNIKORN LAND, A PLACE INBETWEEN THE FLUFFY CLOUDS WHERE A WHOLE BUNCH OF UNIKORN LIVE AND RUN WILD AND FREE. THERE IS ALWAYS SNOW, THE GRASS IS GREEN, THERE ARE MOUNTAINS, LAKES AND WATERFALLS. THE SUN IS ALWAYS SHINING BUT ITS INABILITY TO MELT THE SNOW IS AMAZING. AT RISE: BY THE RIVER IN UNIKORN LAND. “SILVER” IS LAYING DOWN ON HIS LEFT SIDE CLOSE TO THE RIVER. HIS RIGHT WING IS WOUNDED, WHICH MAKES HIM UNABLE TO FLY. (“Jimmy-Korn” is nearby, but out of his sight.)
SILVER FLY, WING, FLY! Ahhh! It’s taken forever for this stinken wing to heal!! How am I ever going to get back home to Papa and Mama Pegge with this Unicorns’ insufficient “River of Healing”. Ohh myy goshh, here we go again, these psycho Unicorns stare at me like I’m all deformed and bizarre, when they’re walking around with a horn in their foreheads! What kind of world is this? I really need to get back home. At least Jimmy–Korn isn’t like all these other Unicorns. That’s why we’re Horsies…Where IS Jimmy-Korn? He was supposed to be here by now.
JIMMY (bitter, disappointed) This whole situation with Silver is getting out of hoof! It’s given me a hornache! His flappers, huge leaves, or whatever he calls them, need to hurry up and heal!! I want his flappers. I can’t go on feeling this useless, and those huge-looking leaves or whatever, will distinguish ME from all these other Unikorns! Oh, how I would love for my Cherry to see me looking so graceful…that other Unikorn thinks he can get away with taking her life, but this game isn’t over yet…just wait until I get my hoofs on those WINGS…”is ‘ova”…
(SILVER sees JIMMY) SILVER: Jimmy, you’re here! I’ve been waiting for you Jimmy-Korn. I’m sure we’re just one treatment away from my wing’s fully healing.
JIMMY Yes, well Silver…I’m too busy for you.. SILVER But…Dude, wassup?! You’ve been very insistent about helping me…You’re the most insistent Unicorn I’ve ever met.
JIMMY Yea, well…I change my horn…
SILVER (desparate) What? But, But, What? Jimmy-Korn you couldn’t have changed your horn…I haven’t done nothing to you. Talk to me Bro’.
JIMMY This is hard for me to talk about…
SILVER Jimmy, you insufficient Unikorn, don’t do this to me. (grabs JIMMY) I need you…we’re Horsies, right?
JIMMY (angry) Look here, Silver, not everything is about you and your huge flappers!! Or whatever the heck they are!! What about me?! Jimmy The Unikorn!! Huh?? Yea, nobody ever cares or wonders about what Me! I! This Unikorn! Jimmy! Wants!
SILVER Well…What do you want? JIMMY (BBBRRR – horse sputtering noise) EVERYTHING!! SILVER Welll, Jimmyboy, what-the-monkey is Everything? Explicate por favor. JIMMY I want to be free. Not have to wake up seeing myself surrounded by horns until I die…I’m curious and I wonder what it’s like to be you. And have WINGS!!
SILVER Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, oh JimmyKorn. I understand you. But some things just can’t be…I mean, I can’t grow a horn!! Not that I want to…And you can’t grow wings. Sorry to break it to you.
JIMMY Silver, what am I getting out of helping you heal your dumb flapper? Huh…huh!?!!? SILVER The satisfaction of knowing that you helped and protected someone. Something you couldn’t do for your wife. JIMMY Don’t you mention my wife or I swear I’ll poke you with my horn.
SILVER Woah??! Don’t get all defensive; you’re the one who told me about her…you wouldn’t stop chomping your teeth about it…
JIMMY You know what Silver? I’m through with you!! You shallow wanna-be Unicorn!! You don’t care about anyone or anything but yourself!! I’m taking your wings. We can do this the easy way or the hard way.
SILVER You can’t take my wings. You ain’t got the skills.
JIMMY Silver, I got more than skills, and with your wings I can do all the things that I never had the chance to do with my horn, like…fly! SILVER BUT, BUT, BUT how are you going to fly with a messed-up wing? Huh?? Guess you ain’t so smart after all, Mr. Know-it-all Unikorn!!
JIMMY I’ll heal your flapper, then I’ll take it, and you’ll be a plain old horse!
SILVER What!! A horse, that’s worser than being a DONKEY! A burro! Jimmy-Korn if you do this to me I’m going to have to stay in Unikorn land forever!
JIMMY Yes. I’m aware. But I don’t care no more!! Because you’re selfish and shallow. I tried to help you out dude, but you didn’t care about me, so now I don’t care about you!!
SILVER Come on, Jimmy-Korn, don’t do this. Forgive me!!!
JIMMY Stop calling me JimmyKorn! It’s too late, I’m taking them! Abra calabra patas de cabra!!
SILVER NOOO!!!!! I’m a horse now! (JIMMY runs toards SILVER and stabs him with his horn. SILVER dies. JIMMY flies up into the sky.) JIMMY FREEE! I’M FREE! I’M FREE! (JIMMY flies off with the beautiful wings that have been healed with his magic; his horan and his head pointing towards the sky, feeling free at last.)
