Schells, the cobra. Age 10.
Zack, the crow. Age 10
They are BFFs.
Setting
Rainy. Poop on the ground. Good smell because of flowers. It’s a rainforest. There’s fruits and veggies. We hear animals chirpings and hissing.
Time
Present day; Spring on a rainy day at noon.
At Rise
Schell’s dad, the hawk, finished eating a dart frog, and he told Schell’s that he needed crow blood because he just ate a poison frog and the crow’s blood is medicine to them.
Schells
(Talking to himself)
I only know one crow who would get close enough to me. My friend, Zack. My dad is sick, and he needs crow blood, but killing isn’t my best tactic.
Zack
(Talking to himself)
My dad really hates me. There’s only one way to get some respect, and that’s to catch a snake. And the only snake I can get close to without pooping myself is Schells.
Schells
I think that might be Zack over there!
Zack
Is that who I think it is? Schells!!
(Talking to himself)
If I can trick Schells to come to my dad’s nest, I will be rewarded.
[Schells Approaches Zack]
Schells
Hello, Zack. How are you? You want to come to my cave and play some games?
Zack
I was thinking you’ll come to my nest for some dinner!
(Talking to himself)
Maybe if I can go to his house, we can go tomine tomorrow.
(To Schells)
Sure! Let’s go to your cave.
Schells
Ok, right this way.
(Talking to himself)
This is getting easy. It’s like taking honey from a cub.
[They enter Schell’s cave. Zack spots a giant viper and gets scared, but realizes it’s the only way he can get a snake to bring to his dad.]
Schells
Hello, mom and dad. I brought back the crow you needed, dad.
Zack
So, where is the games?
Schells
Let’s play hide and seek.
Zack
Ok. Where do we play?
Schells
We can play in my dad’s burrow in the dark.
Zack
Sounds scary. Let’s do it.
Schells
(Talk to himself)
If my dad’s quick enough, he can grab Zack the crow, since I’m too scared to do it.
Zack
I remember we used to always play this.
Schells
Zack, shut up. My dad’s sleep. You don’t want to wake him. He might eat you.
[To get things started off, Zack goes and hides from Schells under Schell’s dad’s rock.]
Zack
OW!! What was that??
Schells
Oh, it was just my hungry dad. Zack, I know you wanted your dad’s approval since we first met, but I’m a snake. You can never trust a snake.
Zack
Although I’m dying, I knew I couldn’t trust you. So my big brother was here the whole time.
Schells
You’re bluffing.
[Schells gets grabbed]
Schells
HELP!!
Zack
If only my dad could see how I helped catch the biggest snake. Big bro, please tell him for me.
[Zack’s last words. He dies.]
Schells
You might have gotten me, but guess what: You’re not making it of this cave alive.
[Schell’s last words. He dies.]
[Schell’s dad was healed. Not from Zack’s blood, but from his brother’s. Zack’s dad, the hawk, is still the same guy, but he’s happier because all the food at the top of the tree is
now his only.]
