CHARACTERS:

D.O. the raccoon

                                                            JUNE the raccoon

SETTING: In an alleyway.
TIME: 8:45pm
AT RISE: D.O. and JUNE are sitting in an alleyway, breathing hard, because they just got done running from the S.P.C.A.  They only got a few hours before the S.P.C.A. hit again, and this is the time that they are ‘bout to have this serious talk.

JUNE
(Breathing hard)
A D.O…we got ta talk fo’ a min.

D.O.
Yeah, Bra…I was ‘bout ta say the same thang, fa’real.

JUNE
Aight den, what’s poppin’?

D.O.
Naw, Bra’, you go first.

JUNE
Aight, look, Bra’, remember when I was telling you ‘bout leavin’.

D.O.
Yeah, I remember you brought it up. Why, what’s on yo’ mind.

JUNE
I feel that this running the streets stuff is getting old, fa’real.

D.O.
Getting’ old? What you mean getting old?

JUNE
Just like I said, it’s getting’ old Bra’. All we do is hit licks all day and night.

D.O.
And yo’ point is? What’s wrong with that?

JUNE
My point is that there’s otha’ stuff out there besides running the streets.

D.O.
And what would that be? ‘Cause if you talking ‘bout getting’ a job you already know ma’ answer.

JUNE
Bra’ it’s getting’ too hot out here in these streets.

D.O.
So, now you feel like it’s getting too hot?

JUNE
Yea.

D.O.
Dude, it’s always hot out here in these streets.

JUNE
Yea, I know that, but…

D.O.
But what?

JUNE
But you makin’ yo’ self too hot. The S.P.C.A. has yo’ description and the whole nine.

D.O.
So, what that mean?

JUNE
That means, you hot.

D.O.
So, that really don’t matter, cause either way it go, Ima be hot.

JUNE
Yeah, that too, but when you hit that house lick that made you way too hot.

D.O.
Man, I had to. I heard that she had some good stuff in her kitchen. I had to, I couldn’t resist.

JUNE
Yea, ok, and…

D.O.
And that would have had us straight. The only reason she peeped me is ‘cause of them new damn sensor lights. If it wasn’t for them lights I would of got in and out of her kitchen in no time.

JUNE
Yea…ok, whatever you say.

D.O.
But anyway, what is you tryin’ ta’ get at?

JUNE is silent.

D.O.
A, June, I know you heard me.

JUNE
Look, I was thinkin’ ‘bout movin’ to the town with ma’ girl and startin’ ova.

D.O.
Movin’ to the town? Startin’ ova?

JUNE
Yea.
D.O.
Blood, you trippin’, talkin’ ‘bout movin’ off with that bird brain.

JUNE
A dude, watch yo’ mouth, and that would be a better start fo’ everybody.

D.O.
Everybody, dude, you speaking fo’ yo’ self ‘cause I love it here. You just speakin’ for you and her.

JUNE
And how is that?

D.O.
Cause you tryin’ to move to a whole notha’ city where you don’t know nobody, so you could live with some female.

JUNE
And what that mean? It’s a better environment out there than what we living in, and she aint just some female.

D.O.
Look, Bra’, da female aint no good anyway ta’ keep it real with you.

JUNE
And how would you know that?

D.O.
Look, Bra’, back ‘bout a few days ago when you was at work. I went to the spot ‘cause I needed to chill, and me and her got off some brown back leaves, and she tried to make a move.

JUNE
Make a move? What you talking ‘bout make a move? I know she aint even like that.

D.O.
Just like I said the raccoon is foul, fa’real.

JUNE
So what you do?
D.O.
You already know, I told her you was ma’ Bra, and I wasn’t havin’ it.

(JUNE’S eyes start to glow green, and he starts to growl.)

JUNE
I don’t believe that bull. You just saying anything right now. Ma’ girl aint foul as you puttin’ it. You just tryin’ ta stop us from leavin’, but it’s not gon’ work, Bra, fa’real.

D.O.
So, that’s how you rockin’ now? You just gon’ leave me out here? Then if you leave, who is gon’ have ma’ back?

JUNE
Well, you could come with us, cause we both know you need to.

D.O.
Naw, naw, naw, you trippin’.

JUNE
Bra, you too hot as it is. You a be cool in the town. They wont be lookin’ fo’ you out there.

D.O
I really don’t care how hot I am. Either way, I’m hot.

JUNE
And how is that?

D.O.
‘Cause fool no matter where we go if the S.P.C.A. see a raccoon walking the streets they gon’ try ta’ pick a brotha up. So might as well do what I got ta’ do so I could eat along the way.

JUNE
Not really, you just thinkin’ negative.

D.O.
Aight…Look, we aint got that much time ‘cause we already been back here talkin’ fo’ hella long. And you know that they ‘bout ta make they rounds so what poppin’.

JUNE
My mind set on movin’.

D.O.
You really serious ‘bout this?

JUNE
Yea.

D.O.
After all we been through, you just ready to leave?

JUNE
Yea, we could put all this behind us.

D.O.
How we gon’ do that? This is where we grew up at. This is our home, and I don’t know ‘bout you, but I aint leavin’.

JUNE
Bra, now you know damn well when, and I say when, they catch up to you they might try to hit you with raccoon’s life, or worse, try and put you to sleep. Now you could run, but you can’t hide.

D.O.
Hide? Who said I’m hidin’? I aint never been the one to hide.

JUNE
Yeah, you talk all that tuff stuff now, but what if they catch you?

D.O.
I aint really trippin’ off getting’ caught, ‘cause if they chase, I run, and get away. You already know how it goes.

JUNE
But who said it’s gon’ go like that all the time?

D.O.
Man, fa’real, I think you on some ole otha’ fa’real.

JUNE
And, how you figure that?

D.O.
‘Cause what happen to us neva’ leavin’ our home? What you fa’got already we aint got no family, and point blank, I aint leavin’ and you shouldn’t want ta’ leave yo’ damn self.

JUNE
Yea, I know what I said, but I aint neva think that stuff was gon’ get this hot. I don’t know ‘bout you but I aint tryin’ ta get wrapped up and go to the shelter. ‘Cause you already know if we get caught we goin’ to the shelter off top with all the dirt we been doing.

D.O.
You talkin’ ‘bout getting’ caught, going to the shelter. Man, I don’t care. I aint gon’ let nobody scare me off or out of my city.

JUNE
Man, you really aint getting’ the point.

D.O.
And what is the point that I’m ‘post ta be gettin’?  That you running away with a female?

JUNE
Really, it’s not that. And trust I aint running.

D.O.
Then what you call yo’self doing then you, jerk? What happen to raccoons fo’ life? What happen to we aint gon’ never change?

JUNE
And that aint gon’ neva change.
D.O.
That’s not what I’m hearing right now.

JUNE
You really want to know why I’m tryin’ ta’ move and start ova’?

D.O.
That’s the whole reason why I’m back here in this alleyway this whole time fo’. Tryin’ ta find out what’s the reason.

JUNE
Ma’ girl’s pregnant.

(D.O. is silent.)

JUNE (CONT.)
There, you happy? I just told you.

D.O.
Damn, Bra’, you sure?

JUNE
Yea, I’m sure. She went to the doctor’s and she the papers.

D.O.
A, Bra, I got something to tell you.

JUNE
And what is that?

D.O.
Bra’ I hit that before so if might not be yours, Bra’.

JUNE
What is you talkin’ ‘bout.

D.O.
Key. Remember when I was telling you she tried to make a move?

JUNE
Yea.

D.O.
Well, that move worked.

JUNE
I already knew you was foul. How could you, to me though?

D.O.
Bra, it’s not like that. I wasn’t in my right state of mind. She took advantage of me while I was on.

JUNE
Yea, we gon’ get to that fo’ sho’ in a min., but Key not the one who pregnant.

D.O.
Then what is you talkin’ ‘bout?

JUNE
I said ma’ girl, but I never, but I never said Key. I’m talkin’ ‘bout my girlfriend, Jazz.

D.O.
Jazz?

JUNE
Yea, Jazz.

D.O.
And who is that?

JUNE
Don’t trip. Why you want ta know, so you could try and get with her too?

D.O.
Dude, you already know it aint even like that. I already told you from the start that she wasn’t no good.

JUNE
So that means that you got ta’ go sleep with her?

D.O.
Bra, don’t tell me that you got deep feelings fo’ her?

JUNE
So, what if I do!?

(D.O. is silent.)

JUNE (CONT.)
Look that aint my focus right now, we talkin’ bout ma’ seed, and me leavin’.

D.O.
So, what’s poppin? You gon’ leave or not, ‘cause we only got ‘bout 10 minutes left.

JUNE
Bra, fa’real, I don’t want ma’ baby growin’ up in this place. Growin’ up like we did with no parents. I want to be there fo’ mines. And if I stay with you Ima get caught up, and aint gon’ be there fo’ my son.

D.O.
I see now, so you got a real family and you just gon’ leave me behind now?

JUNE
Naw, not like you think, but my child is way more important than running the streets. So, what’s up?

D.O.
Then go! ‘Cause like you saying, eing aroundme is just gon’ get you caught up. So go get yo’ baby momma and get out this city. Ima stay!

JUNE
Bra’…

D.O.
Dude if you leavin’, then leave!

JUNE
Aight, Bra’, I’m out.

(They give each other hugs and they split their separate ways. June goes and gets his baby momma and split. While D.O. is walking in deep thoughts, the S.P.C.A. throws a net over him. 2 weeks later, D.O. gets found guilty of all the crime brought against him. The S.P.C.A. sentences him to get put to sleep.)
