| CHARACTERS: |
NIKE the SHOE, red and white with thin laces, very disappointed with his life, needs to come anew. He’s a smart shoe. Age 22. He also is in shape, healthy, keeps himself clean enough compared to other shoes living here.
RUSTY the NAIL is really rusty, stuck in a dangerous bad jam. She’s NIKE the SHOE’s lil sister. She’s very depressed.

Dirty city streets with a horrible smell, rats all around. It is very windy, pouring down raining, puddles everywhere damn near. It is shoe stores around, clothes stores, theaters and all. NIKE the SHOE is very small in this Big Dirty City.

Winter. Friday at midnight. |
| AT RISE: |
NIKE asleep on side of a dumpster across the street from the shoe store. RUSTY on the sidewalk, just sitting.

NIKE the SHOE
(waking up)
I am so tired of living like this in these dirty city streets. It’s too much risky things like catching any type of feet fungus, especially since I am around a very dirty environment where it’s pouring down raining with puddles throughout the city and the wind blowing hard. I have been thinking about trying to get myself stocked in this store, a very popular shoe store. I’ve been seeing this UPS truck deliver boxes of shoes to this store for about 3
months. I have seen the boxes tip over out the dolly in shoes fell out. Man so for about the last 2 weeks I’ve been scoping the store out to see what time does the UPS comes on Saturday exactly. Because I have an outstanding plan I have put together in it haves to be done today at 5:30 pm, before the store closes at 7:00 pm. God damn I have been
wanting to get in a better environment because if I wait any longer I can end up like the rest of the shoes I’ve seen all torn up and color changed by the fungus. I am still in good enough condition to get stocked in the store then bought into a house. I have always made sure I stayed in a place on these dirty city streets by myself to prevent from getting too dirty.
(Gets up in walks a few blocks to clear his mind. NIKE sees RUSTY and wants to stop in talk, discuss a few things including his situation with his plan.)
NIKE the SHOE
How are you doing lil sis?
RUSTY the NAIL
I am really doing completely bad.
NIKE the SHOE
Why is that?
RUSTY the NAIL
Because today I had the worst experience in my life even though I always get kicked around, Nike, today I was kicked right into the streets where the cars were flying coming really fast. I almost got run over but the wind was blowing hard in blow me out the way right on time. Your sister could’ve gotten killed Nike.
NIKE the SHOE
I understand sis as long as you are okay now is what matters.
RUSTY the NAIL
Is that all you have to say after all of this time we have been separated all you could say is if I’m okay, it’s okay you are not thinking of what the outcome could have been I wouldn’t be even here now to talk to you.
NIKE the SHOE
(brushing her off) I’m not really worried about that. I have other things on my mind if you would of never flipped out on me a couple years ago it would not be this way but all this was your choice.
RUSTY the NAIL
Nike I really feel you on the part about me flipping out years ago but about me damn near getting killed I don’t feel how you are taking it like I’m not your little sister.
NIKE the SHOE
You know what Rusty I have really been doing somewhat good compared to you and with you away from me and in and out of my life I kinda like that you let me walk a whole different way than you. Because I am going to be a popular shoe in a couple hours.
RUSTY the NAIL
You will never be a popular shoe if I have something to do with it because I have been missing the relationship that we had. You’re my big brother my only hope of family here and the only person to give me guidance but you sitting here acting like you really don’t care. And like I said before if I have something to do with it you will never be popular I will do whatever to keep you here with your little sister.
NIKE the SHOE
Why are you willing to basically put me down in such a way. It’s not that I don’t care about you it’s that I have so much on my mind I am very tired in frustrated living out here. You’re my little sister but I also want to get out of this situation.
RUSTY the NAIL
You are not the only one who needs to get out a bad situation you said it yourself that I am doing worser than you so you rather leave me in go on with your plan or whatever you have in mind.
NIKE the SHOE
I know you are in a jam but I was planning on following through my with plan to be a popular shoe today at 5:30 or 5:35 so I think I should be going bout my business.
RUSTY the NAIL
But Nike just wait real quick. I have to tell you one more thing seriously.
NIKE the SHOE
(walks towards Rusty)
Okay okay one thing.
(Once NIKE gets close, RUSTY scratches the side of NIKE all up)
NIKE the SHOE
(angry) What the hell you doing Rusty is it that serious that you had to mess me all up. That is my downfall seriously I have no chance to get stocked now Rusty and I only have about 4 more hours.
RUSTY the NAIL
If that was the only way I really could get your attention to tell you what I have been wanting to really say because you just kept blowing me off then that’s what I had to do.
NIKE the SHOE
(little bit mad) What is it talk to me because I think I could ease my way to still complete my plan cuz you didn’t do too much damage.
RUSTY the NAIL
Okay Nike I know you feel like all of this is my fault because the way I acted years ago. but I have really been missing you it’s too dangerous for you to leave your sister out here and you know how these streets are. I know you care and still love me but why you have to act all stuck up towards me I have been hoping and wishing that one day I will be back with my brother no matter if it’s still on these streets. We could make it with each
other Nike it isn’t nothing stronger than love and family. We are all we got so you can’t sit here in tell me that you don’t love me at all and will just up in leave me. If you don’t care walk away now.
NIKE the SHOE
I really want to go through with that plan, but you are right about me missing you. I mean that is what have been bothering me the most wondering how are you doing. I know we are all we got and I think the best thang is to always have love in life. If I was to stay with
you will you promise to find a way for you to basically start over, if you willing to I am also. I don’t want to lose you out in these streets by going to some stupid store. I mean I really want to but it isn’t like the store will be moved it doesn’t have a life to live we do and I am not losing you again.
RUSTY the NAIL
(happy) I am so happy and I really promise Big Brother that I will start as long as we stay together. Thank you!!!
(NIKE and RUSTY give each other a big hug.)
