The Milky Way Family By Jonathan
Characters: Red the Sun, Male, Age 22 Bright the Moon, his Mom, Age 44
Setting: The Milky Way. A very empty place.
Time: Weekend in the summer. Present Day.
At Rise: The Moon and Sun look down on the Earth (Sun’s little brother)
Red: (Thinking to himself) I been so frustrated lately. On my last argument with my mom which was a couple days ago, she told me to get away from my lil’ brother because I was supposedly leading him on the wrong path. But what she don’t get is that me and him are going through so much stuff we can’t even focus on regular things like on school and sports. Instead we’re focusing on how we’re going to survive through the struggle. So now I been thinking and chilling out with the girl of my dreams cause I also got give her some time. So through all this I got a girl I’m tryin’ to get serious about, I want to get serious with her and start a family and stuff, but I can’t focus on that because I gotta deal with my brother and make sure he doesn’t grow up like I did, without an older figure in his life. Man all this stuff, I’m going crazy. I just hope my bro and mom are cool.
Bright: (Calling her older son, she screams) You have to get back here, your little brother Earth just got beat up. The people that live on him are bombing him because they’re crazy.
Red: If you would of never told me to leave that would never happen! I knew you could not protect him.
Bright: If you would of just shined on other places and got your education instead of just shing on the Bay Area. Your lil bro would of followed your path instead of being with these backstabbing people.
Red: Well maybe if we were in a better situation like every other kid we would focus on school not on what we’re going to eat.
Bright: (shocked) Oh my God! Don’t try to blame this on me! I’m sure there are tons of other kids going through the struggle just like you and are still managing to go to school and stay out trouble. But that’s exactly why I’m telling you to get an education, so you and your family never have to go through this!
Red: Man whatever. I don’t even wanna hear this right now. I’m on my way. But now I don’t want to hear YOU complain about me being with him too much because as we could all see you can’t get him out every situation.
Bright: I could protect him in every way but I can’t stop who he’s hanging with cuz of you. I already been through you growin’ up and taking the wrong path and I don’t want to do it again. I really need your help getting him on the right path.
Red: (Sarcastic) Man whatever, you’re right and I’m wrong. (Turns away from the Moon and Venus and shines on the earth. Then the Sun makes the earth so hot that the people that were bombing his brother are going inside their houses. Things calm down on Earth for the moment.).
Bright: (After their argument Bright thinking to herself.) God. I wish my kids got the importance of education! Like don’t they see the situation they’re in? Don’t they want to get out of it? I mean they are the ones that are always complaining! I wish I can give everything they want in the world but I hate myself because I can’t. Either way I hope they can open their eyes and get on the right path before it’s too late! I was always depressed and sad and crying when Red was comin’ up because I watched him get into trouble and hang out with the wrong people and I couldn’t do nothin’ about it. I can’t let that happen to Earth.
Red: (Next day Sun turns to Moon) Sorry Mom I didn’t mean to disrespect you. It’s just you never get why I’m always trying to be with my brother. You didn’t understand how I felt when I was comin’ up, that I didn’t have anyone to talk to or look up to. That might have been part of the reason I went the way I did. I want to be there for him to make sure he knows someone’s got his back.
Bright: It’s okay Son. I understand why you want to always be with your Brother. But at the same time what you don’t notice is that when you’re with him, you’re showing him bad things and keeping him from going to school. You don’t know but that’s really hurting him.
Red: Man I knew you were going to say this again. Same old thing with you every time.
Bright: Whatever. Instead of getting into trouble, why don’t you spend more time with that girlfriend of yours…I knew you really like her and she serious with you. You know she also wants you to get an education.
Red: You know what? I do love her but let’s say I do leave and live with her? Who is going to protect my bro when something like this happens? Cuz we all know you can’t but it’s not your fault he need a male figure like me that could protect him!
Bright: It’s not my fault that your dad didn’t stay to watch you all grow up. But why you always gotta expect violence? Maybe if you guys hanged around the right people and went to school you would not have to protect him from stuff like this. Then finally I could have my own life! I’d like to have a boyfriend of my own and focus on my job and stuff but you all are constantly giving me headaches. It just gets me upset that my whole life I been trying to make a good life for you all, and you are getting close to being a complete failure in your life and your brother going in your footsteps. But no matter what happens there is no way your lil brother is going to go through getting bombed again! So make your decision! Are you going to help get him the right way and get an education or I’m going to send him away? Make your mind up!
Red: Man, that stuff gets me mad that you think I’m a bad influence for my bro. All I do is give him advice and protect him but you be coming up with these crazy ideas that I’m bringing him down. But you’re right, things are getting too serious. I’m not going to let that happen again. So you know what, I’m going to start going to school and focusing on my girl but I’m not going to force him to do anything. I’m going to leave that up to you.
Bright: Are you serious? You better not be lying! Don’t worry about your brother. I will talk to him. But I’m sure you go to school then he will go too. No problem. (A couple of months later.) I’m glad they’ve both changed their life and at least making an effort and trying to stay out of trouble. As for me, I’m happier, no I can focus on my relationship with this new dude I just met.
