The boy got the promotion. CHEWY Yeah. So what? He got the promotion. That’s good for him. He can get what he wants, but I am teeth. He gets a promotion and I’m still the same. So, I don’t care about it. HAPPY Why you so mad about Dave getting the promotion? I like that he got the promotion. He got the promotion now I have a chance to be in the commercial. HAPPY I want to be in the commercial because I want more people to be happy. In this world, everyday there are many people that feel upset. I don’t like it. You are my best friend. I didn’t tell you because before… I didn’t know I could have a chance to be in a commercial. CHEWY So if you want to be in the commercial… What about me? You just said I am your best friend and now you’re going to leave me alone.
HAPPY I want to be the happy smile in the commercial. You will go with me. I am not leaving you alone. I need you to help me. When I smile, they got to see you too! CHEWY How can I help you? I am only teeth. HAPPY When I go to the commercial, help me smile. CHEWY No. I want to find another person who will take care of me. I want to live with a person who takes care of their teeth. I can’t help you. I’m not beautiful. I’m dirty and I’m missing a tooth. HAPPY How are you going to leave and go be another person’s teeth? So you’re the one leaving me. I’ll never see you again. CHEWY I need you to help me leave. I’ll miss you too, but I don’t want the rest of me to fall out because of being dirty like the missing tooth. I don’t know… HAPPY Yeah… This guy almost forgets to brush his teeth everyday! You’ve had that space from the missing tooth for one year and he doesn’t even care. CHEWY Yeah, so… I need your help. I have an idea! You help me talk some bad stuff to the person sitting over there. Then he’ll get mad and hit me out of this mouth. Then I’ll end up in the hospital and leave. HAPPY No! I can’t help you. It will hurt. I’m scared of pain. They hit the mouth and it will make the face feel pain and have blood. I won’t be a smile anymore! I’ll die! CHEWY No… You can’t die. You’ll just hurt one day or two days. But after this, you can smile again. Plus, only you can help me. HAPPY No, I can’t help you. I don’t want to hurt. CHEWY You don’t want to hurt? So how about when they swing to hit you, you open your mouth and let them hit me. They’ll make me fall out. HAPPY If I help you, you’ll leave. How about me? How about my commercial? I’ll go to the commercial and I won’t have teeth to smile? I can’t help you. I really need this commercial. I want to help more people smile. I am on this face. I know the upset feeling. I don’t like it. I need more people to smile because if they smile, then there will be more of me out in the world. CHEWY I leave and then the boy will get new teeth and you’re smile will be better than having me. I’m missing one tooth. You need to think about this…. HAPPY No. It hurts. If they hit us… They’ll hit the mouth and the mouth will tilt, which makes it very dangerous for me. I won’t be able to do what I want.
CHEWY So do you have another idea so that we both can do our dream? HAPPY Right now, we are almost at the boy’s office. We need to think of a good idea before he goes into the office. CHEWY I don’t have any ideas besides the one I said. Let’s do that! HAPPY How about when they’re in the meeting, I’ll smile at the boss and let him see that I’m good looking. Then I’ll open the mouth bigger and let him know you’re missing a tooth. CHEWY Yeah…. then what? HAPPY I bet the boss will give the boy money to fix you. CHEWY Listen, that’s an idea… But I want to live with someone who will take care of me. He didn’t brush me. He just left me dirty. I don’t like it! HAPPY If you get fixed, the boy will get the commercial and it’ll make him want to brush you every day and take care of you! He’ll continue to brush you so we can live together. I need this commercial. When my mom died, I promised to smile and never be upset.
CHEWY No. I want to live with the girl. I don’t want to help you. I don’t like this face! I hate it here! When I was younger, the boy would use me to eat and not brush me. He would just eat then go to sleep and leave me dirty. HAPPY Why live with the girl? CHEWY She will brush me every day. I want to be clean. HAPPY How about this… You help me when we get into the office. I’ll get the commercial and when I smile, people will say this guy’s teeth are dirty… They’ll make him brush his teeth every day. CHEWY No. That doesn’t help. HAPPY Believe me! He will brush every day. CHEWY Ok. I’ll stay with you if he brushes me. If not, I’ll leave. (The bus is at its stop. The boy goes up to the office to meet with his boss.) HAPPY Chewy, right now… I’m going to smile and show you off. It’s our chance… (Happy gives a big smile and Chewy shows himself.) |
