Witch’s Magical Journey By Britani S.
CHARACTERS: Witch, the Wolverine; 16 Suns old. Enchanted, The Guardian Angel.16 Moons old. SETTING: A small meadow surrounded by dark trees. The Moon is just coming out from the big grey clouds. The sky just stopped shedding its tears and there are many puddles on the ground. TIME: Midnight AT RISE: Witch, is pacing back and forth. She is alone and looks worried. In the puddle under her feet she sees the reflection of the Moon and her own face. Witch thrusts her paw into the puddle to break the reflection.
Witch
I hate seeing myself like this! Matted fur with chunks missing all over! This is NOT what I wanted my life to be like! I never thought I would turn out like this!…. And now…. What am I to do? The Dragons are coming for me at dawn! There is no way to run from them… but I am tired of running anyway. Once they take me I will never get a chance to become a Lioness, the Ruler of the Forest! Oh how I wish I could get a new chance to live!!
(Wolverine howls and then drops her head on her paws.)
Enchanted
So….. You have a wish now, do you?
(Witch jumps up surprised)
Witch
Who’s there? Who are you?
Enchanted
It’s me – Enchanted! Your Guardian Angel, who else!?
Witch
My Guardian Angel? I never knew I had one!
Enchanted
You are not supposed to know I’m here. I’m just here to help and protect you.
Witch Bullshark! Where were you when I needed you? When I was being chased by Jcats through the forest?
Enchanted
I was running with you. But it was not the right time to intervene for if I did – you would not be here tonight to answer the question that will determine your future!
Witch
What future? I’ve ruined my future already by chasing after all those white rabbits! I once had dreams of becoming a Lioness, the Ruler of the Forest… but it’s too late now… Either the Dragons will take me in their dungeon or the Jcats will force me to stay a wolverine forever and will make me catch those white rabbits…
Enchanted
Is it really true? You know the saying: you can bring a human to McDonald’s but you can’t make it eat a Big Mac! How could someone force you to eat those white rabbits?
Witch
Well… I don’t know… All I remember is that I developed the appetite for white rabbits when the Alpha left our pack…
Enchanted
Keep going! You KNOW the answer! Be honest and look deep within yourself – why being without the Alpha made you a rabbit chaser?
Witch
When Alpha left, it made me feel like a lost puppy! The Alpha was supposed to teach me how to become a Lioness, the Ruler of the Forest but he was not there anymore! So I had to find a way to feel big and strong all by myself! I thought that the more rabbits I ate the bigger I would become!.. But in reality… it made my fur fall off… I only now realize that the more rabbits I ate – the more pain I felt inside! I just wish I knew then what I know now! I could have turned into a Lioness by now… and I would have never thought of eating another white rabbit IN MY LIFE! Instead I would have tried to help little cubs so they wouldn’t have gotten entrapped by following in the same paw steps I had!

Wow, Witch! What you said here is really powerful! It is amazing that you want to help other animals! It is such a noble desire!….
(Pause. Enchanted is considering something in her mind. )
Well, I think I may have something that can help you make your dream come true. If your intentions are pure like you say they are, and if you are honest and sincere from the bottom of your heart… then I will grant you one wish. But be aware – if your desires are not pure… you will be doomed to a lifetime in a dungeon with the dragons and no magic I have will ever help to get you out… Don’t bet your tail on it if you are not sure! The choice is yours to make…
Witch
I’m ready.
Enchanted
Well then… close your eyes. Clear your mind of all thoughts besides your one wish. Slowly count to five… and when you open your eyes you will see….
Witch
One.Two..Three…Four…. Five……………………………………………………
(Witch keeping eyes closed for a few more moments.. then slowly opens them…)
Witch
I honestly put my heart and mind into my wish. I knew I was never going to touch another white rabbit and that I would dedicate my life to saving young cubs from Jcats. I knew that I was ready to be the Lioness…But I knew it was too good to be true… When I opened my eyes the sun was rising… the Guardian Angel was not there anymore. I looked up and I saw Dragons speeding toward me… My heart was beating like wings of a hummingbird!
.. I thought I was doomed! I held my breath as the Dragons approached… But suddenly my fear was gone. I knew that I had meant what I said to Enchanted about wanting to change, I gave all that I had – and I was proud of myself for not running from my problems but facing them head on! |
